Reading the results
Read the status bar and the checks list, find what to change, use the interactive drawing, let auto-design size the connection, and compare two options.
Transcript
Reading the results in ILX Connection.
The status bar
Every connection first tells you whether it works. The status bar at the top of the results says Connection adequate in green, or Connection not adequate in red. It also names the governing check. That is the check closest to its limit, with its ratio. Next to it, the counts tell you how many strength checks fail, and whether the detailing rules are met.
The checks list
Below the drawings is the list of all checks. They come in groups: whether it can be built, the strength checks, the detailing rules, and recommendations. Each row shows the check, its code reference, and a ratio bar. Green means the check passes. Red means the load is more than the strength. Select Failed to see only the problems, or sort by ratio to put the highest first.
What to change
Select a check to open its calculation, step by step, with the values used. A failing check ends with How to fix, which tells you what to change, such as adding bolts or using a thicker plate. Select Show inputs, and the input panel jumps to the fields that check depends on. Those fields carry a small badge, so you can read the problem right where you make the change.
The interactive drawing
The drawing is interactive too. Parts with failing checks are outlined in red. Click a part, like the plate or the bolts, and it is outlined in blue, while the inputs jump to its section. Change a value there, and the drawing and the checks update as you type.
Auto-design
Let ILX Connection find a design for you. First, pin any field you want to keep, such as the beam. Then select Auto-design. Choose what matters most: the lightest design, the fewest bolts, or the lowest cost. Each option shows its ratio, its governing check, and what it changes. Select Apply on the one you want. If you change your mind, Undo takes you back.
Compare
To weigh two options, open both connections in tabs, and select Compare in the header. The two designs are lined up side by side: the status, the governing check, and every strength ratio. The lower ratio of each pair is highlighted, so the better option stands out.
Now you can read every result and know what to change. Questions? Write to us at support@ilxstudio.com.
